What to know before hiring a Health Coach

Finding the right health coach is a personal process and knowing what to look for can make

your experience seamless. A few things to consider could be: are you seeking help with a

chronic illness, wanting to make improvements to your general health, reach a specific goal,

break bad habits, or something else completely different?

This help narrow down your search, and you may find it helpful to prepare a few questions to

ask the coaches you meet along the way. A great place to start is the National Board’s network of Certified Health & Wellness Coaches. If you want to know why it’s important to hire a coach that is National Board certified, book a FREE CONSULTATION for more information on this.

What to consider when coach shopping:

1. GOALS & OUTCOMES: What are you hoping to achieve by working with a health coach?

This will help identify areas of expertise, (if you’re looking for something specific). However, if you find a coach you really vibe with, don’t let their niche stop you from working with them. Remember, many coaches have specialties, but that doesn’t mean they can’t help you find your path and reach your goals. Trust, repour, and presence hold much more weight and will matter to you more. Most coaches offer a free consultation, this is your chance to take them for a “test drive”.

2. CERTIFICATION: When you work with a coach who is Certified, you’re working with one who has met the requirements of an accredited coaching program, has obtained credible coaching skills, apprenticeship hours, and even passed a series of exams.

3. STYLE: What is their background when it comes to approach and mindset? And more importantly, does it align with your goals, values? Create a short list of questions before your consultation meeting to get a sense of who they are. Another way to do this is to scroll through their website.

4. AVAILABILITY: Before you fall head over heels for a coach, make sure you’re schedules

coincide. You may be in different time zones (which could still work) or maybe you’re looking for coaching on a weekend.

Wherever you land, make sure to pat yourself on the back for being willing to take this step. Health Coaching is a relatively new approach to health & wellness, and it takes an open mind to break free from the norm. There is, however, a unique power in coaching. Enjoy the experience and celebrate the milestones along the way. Happy Journeys!
